Court Orders! Kweku Baako To Refund All Defamation Payments to Ken Agyapong

The Court of Appeal ordered a retrial in the defamation case between Kennedy Agyapong and Kweku Baako Jnr.

The court also ordered Baako to refund all payments received from the previous High Court judgment, which was in his favor, within 30 days.

In June 2020, an Accra High Court ruled in favour of the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, in his case against the then-Member of Parliament for Assin Central.

The court gave Ken a 30-day ultimatum to retract and apologise three times on the platforms he used to defame Kweku Baako Jnr and also to pay him GH¢100,000 in damages and a cost of GH¢30,000.

Ken Agyapong challenged that decision because he believed the process and outcome did not reflect the full substance of his case.

The Court of Appeal has now set aside the High Court’s judgment and ordered a retrial of the matter to ensure that the issues are properly determined.

In addition, the Court has directed that all monies paid pursuant to the High Court’s judgment be refunded to Ken Agyapong within thirty (30) days.

Ken Agyapong, however, remains confident in the judicial process and committed to pursuing this matter through the appropriate legal channels.
