Statement by the President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) on International Women's Day
Theme: Empowering the African Woman through the Strength of Armwrestling
As today marks the International Wome's Day, I on behalf of AFA board celebrate the incredible women who define the spirit of our sport across the African continent.
We do not just celebrate a date; we celebrate the "Pullers" – the female athletes whose physical strength is matched only by their mental fortitude and dedication to the growth of Armwrestling in Africa.
To our female athletes across the continent, I salute you. You have stepped onto the table and proved that Armwrestling is not merely a test of muscle, but a showcase of strategy, discipline, and African excellence. Your participation has breathed new life into our championships, and your successes on the international stage have brought immense pride to your respective nations and our federation.
I also recognize the tireless efforts of the female administrators, referees, and coaches who work behind the scenes. Your leadership is the backbone of our continental growth, ensuring that the Armwrestling Federation of Africa remains a space where merit and passion are the only requirements for success.
AFA recognizes that true progress requires more than just applause; it requires actionable pathways for growth. To ensure that women and girls remain at the heart of our strategic vision, AFA is committed and soon will launch The "Girls-on-the-Table" Initiative, a grassroots program aimed at schools and community centers across all districts to introduce young girls to Armwrestling, fostering confidence and physical well-being from a young age.
AFA will provide dedicated training workshops for women interested in sports officiating, coaching, and event management to ensure gender parity in our technical departments.
AFA is committed to ensuring that women’s categories in continental championships receive the high-level media coverage they deserve, highlighting their stories of triumph and perseverance.
To every woman across Africa: The armwrestling table is a place of equality. I encourage you to take up the challenge, embrace your strength, and lead.
Your contribution is not just an addition to the sport, it is the very foundation of its future.
Happy International Women's Day to the strong women of Africa!
Signed,
President, Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA)
